Summary
The purpose of this role is to play a key part in the smooth, welcoming, and efficient running of the practice. You will be a friendly and professional first point of contact, helping to create a positive experience for patients and visitors, whether in person or over the telephone. You will support patients in accessing the most appropriate services or healthcare professionals in a courteous, efficient, and compassionate manner, while also providing essential administrative support to the wider practice team. The role is central to effective communication across the practice, working closely with colleagues, external healthcare providers, and partner organisations to ensure excellent patient care. Key Duties and Responsibilities: This is a varied and rewarding role, with responsibilities that may change from time to time to reflect the needs of the practice. Working under the direction of the Administrator or Practice Manager, duties may include (but are not limited to): Opening and closing the practice premises and maintaining security in line with practice protocols Managing and monitoring the appointments system to support the smooth running of clinics Handling face-to-face and telephone requests for appointments, home visits, and consultations, ensuring patients are directed to the most appropriate healthcare professional Acting as a central communication point by taking messages and sharing information accurately and efficiently Processing repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines Managing incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence Maintaining accurate patient records through timely and accurate computer data entry Liaising with patients, colleagues, and external healthcare agencies in a professional, helpful, and friendly manner Supporting clinicians by clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms as required Providing general clerical and administrative support, including word processing, filing, scanning, and photocopying Helping to maintain a welcoming and organised environment by keeping the reception area, noticeboards, and information displays tidy and well presented Providing refreshments for staff and visitors when required, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture
