LOCATION: Hybrid with at least 3 days in our Totnes office
FUNCTION: ROC College
REPORTS TO: Head Teacher
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Leading business, finance, administrative, HR, premises, and IT teams to support the college’s educational objectives
HOURS: Full Time
SALARY: £40,000 per annum

United Response is a registered charity, founded in 1973. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with learning disabilities, mental, or physical support needs have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. We support around 2,000 people across more than 300 locations in England and Wales, with over 3,600 staff members.

ROC College, a part of United Response, is a specialist college providing person-centred, community-based teaching and learning within Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. We work with young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Business Manager with strong financial, operational, and leadership skills to ensure the smooth running of the college’s business services. You should have experience managing budgets, compliance, and administrative teams, with excellent organisational and communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant business, finance, or management qualifications (e.g. CSBM, DSBM, AAT, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience managing budgets, financial processes, and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of SEN funding, statutory guidance, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience preparing SCR and ILR returns and supporting SEN education outcomes
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with staff, students, families, and external partners
  • Knowledge of safeguarding requirements and a commitment to providing a safe learning environment

What to Expect

As a Business Manager at ROC College, you will:

  • Lead the college’s financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes
  • Oversee SEN funding applications, monitoring, and compliance
  • Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across finance, HR, premises, and IT
  • Manage SCR and ILR returns, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
  • Lead administrative and support teams to deliver high-quality services
  • Support the Head Teacher and governors with strategic planning, risk management, and policy development
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including local authorities, funding bodies, and contractors
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all students
