Crynodeb

The School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology, ideally qualified to PhD level (Senior Lecturer) or Postgraduate level (Lecturer) and with relevant postgraduate experience. While the disciplinary background is flexible (e.g. Pharmacology, Physiology or a related science), expertise that bridges fundamental Pharmacology with translational or clinical application - such as drug discovery, development or clinical evaluation would be particularly welcomed

The successful candidate will have a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and, ideally, experience of securing research funding and will contribute actively to the School’s strong teaching and research profile

The University of Portsmouth holds a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023). The School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences has a strong record of teaching and research excellence, reflected in student satisfaction, graduate employability and REF2021 outcomes

The postholder will teach across a range of programmes including BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy and BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, and will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching, learning and assessment. You will be collaborative, motivated, and keen to contribute to a supportive academic environment

We are looking to appoint either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology. Please specify in your application whether you are applying for the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role. Both roles have a separate job description

Portsmouth is a vibrant waterfront city with fast rail links to London, five international airports, and ferry connections to Europe.

Whilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role.

The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on 20 March 2026.
