We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and committed Teacher (English) at King Edward VII Academy. This role is ideal for an excellent classroom practitioner who is passionate about English, motivated by student success, and keen to develop their teaching practice. Professional Development and Career Progression
We are committed to growing our staff. This role includes the opportunity to take part in a supported development pathway, with the aim of progressing towards a Lead Practitioner or Head of Department role.
This will be supported through:
- A reduced teaching timetable during the development period
- Targeted mentoring and professional development
- Financial incentives over the duration of the scheme, linked to progression milestones
You will teach English across the 11-16 age range, delivering a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum that enables all students to achieve their best. Working collaboratively within a supportive department, you will contribute to curriculum development, share effective practice, and play a full role in raising standards of attainment and progress.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that engage, challenge and support all learners
- Monitor student progress closely, using assessment to inform teaching and provide timely intervention
- Participate in meetings, quality assurance processes, and school events outside normal hours.
- Ensure pupil safeguarding, welfare, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour are monitored and supported.
- Serve as a form tutor, delivering pastoral programmes and supervising pupils as required.
- Teach the curriculum, prepare pupils for examinations, and provide additional support such as interventions and revision lessons.
- Assess pupil progress, evaluate teaching approaches, and provide reports and references to support pupil development.
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential:
- An appropriate degree and other qualifications required for the award of QTS.
- Qualified Teacher Status (trainees should be on track to achieve QTS before taking up the post).
- Knowledge and understanding of the subject to at least undergraduate degree level and different teaching approaches.
- Experience of teaching the subject in a secondary school across the 11-16 age range.
