What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking volunteers who are committed to improving outcomes for young people and who can bring clear communication, constructive questioning and sound judgement to our governing board. While no formal qualifications are required, experience in areas such as leadership, finance, HR, education, law or community engagement is highly valued. Governors should be able to interpret information, act objectively, maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively as part of a team. A commitment to safeguarding, integrity, fairness and the Seven Principles of Public Life is essential.

What the school offers its staff

De Aston School offers a warm, welcoming and supportive environment where governors are valued and encouraged to develop their skills. We provide full training, induction and ongoing CPD to help you thrive in the role. As a vibrant, inclusive 11–18 school with excellent facilities and a strong pastoral ethos, we pride ourselves on evidence‑informed practice, a positive culture and high staff morale. Governors join a dedicated team committed to high‑quality education, student wellbeing and strong community engagement.

Further details about the role

All volunteer appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks and standard safeguarding procedures.
