Summary

SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Horley
Salary: £22,000 - £23,000 per annum

We are seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Horley, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference and supporting pupils who require consistency, structure, and understanding to thrive.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development

  • Help create a safe, calm, and nurturing learning environment

  • Implement behaviour and support plans consistently

  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs (desirable)

  • Be patient, resilient, and able to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Demonstrate strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Be flexible, proactive, and a positive team player

  • Have a genuine commitment to supporting pupil wellbeing and progress

Safeguarding & Compliance:

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection is essential

  • The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check

  • The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment
