Summary
The role will provide effective advice and expertise within the Flood Risk Management team of Strategic Infrastructure, to ensure that it makes the maximum contribution to the regeneration and sustainability of the district through effective delivery of the statutory responsibilities of the Lead Local Flood Authority, with particular regard to the effective and proactive implementation of flood risk management matters.
The role is key to ensuring that the council adheres to its duties as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and requires providing the councils statutory responses to major planning applications in accordance with local and national policies and guidance. This includes the monitoring of consultations from the Local Planning Authority and ensuring that our standards are being met in terms of both Health & Safety and quality of work. The role requires knowledge of flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders. The role requires providing updates to councillors and members of the public.
The role will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of flood risk management and to gain a breadth of experience through the delivery of a wide range of flood risk management initiatives.
Key duties/responsibilities of the role include,
1. Evaluate and provide advice on planning applications to the Local Planning Authority in relation to surface water management under the Lead Local Flood Authorities statutory role within the planning process in accordance with local and national policies and guidance.
2. Provide specialist technical input to statutory and non-statutory Planning consultation responses for surface water & flood risk management.
3. Provide expert advice and guidance to the Local Planning Authority and partner agencies towards the development, maintenance and management of the Councils Strategic Flood Risk Assessment.
4. Attend Council Committees, Panels and briefing meetings with Elected Members providing technical advice and making recommendations on the content of the work area.
5. Contribute to the consenting and enforcement for works on ordinary watercourses.
If you have experience in Flood Risk Management, we would welcome your application. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills and have a strong understanding of the principals of flood risk management. Full mentoring will be provided, and the successful candidate will have a degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualification or experience.
