Summary
Healthcare Assistant Core Responsibilities The Healthcare Assistant will primarily support clinical and administrative services within the practice. While the role has defined core responsibilities, occasional additional duties may be required depending on workload and staffing levels. Clinical Support: Support the practice nurse in health promotion programmes. Perform baseline observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation, recording findings accurately. Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required. Assist the practice nurse in the management of chronic disease clinics. Conduct BMI checks as directed. Act as a chaperone when required. Perform venepuncture. Administer flu vaccinations. Conduct ECGs as requested. Ensure specimens are collected, recorded, and prepared for onward transportation. Provide support during minor operations as needed. Ensure clinical rooms are fully stocked and prepared for each session. Maintain fridge hygiene in accordance with current guidance. Ensure clinical waste and sharps are managed according to the organisations IPC policy. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate. Care Coordination Support: Support the Care Coordination Team during weekly care home ward rounds. Assist with administrative duties related to care home patients, reporting to the lead care home GP. Secondary Responsibilities In addition to the core duties, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to: Participate in practice audits as directed by the audit lead. Take part in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.
