JOB DESCRIPTION
Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a 11 year old boy living in Llanharry with my family. I have Downs Syndrome. I’m a cheeky, funny and fun-loving child. Sometimes I can show aggression but only to my mum because she is my safe space.
Like any other child I have my stubborn moments and can be challenging. I want the person who works with me to understand this and work with me in an empathetic way.
I don’t like loud noises and don’t have an understanding of safety awareness. Without someone to look after me I could hurt myself or do something silly, so you have to be all eyes and ears when looking after me.
I have an allergy to milk and this will be discussed in more detail at an interview.
PURPOSE OF JOB
To support me out in the community, encourage my independence and living skills. Also to ensure my mum knows I am safe.
HOURS OF WORK
3 hours per week during term-time
9 hours per week for the 6 weeks summer holidays
6 hours per week for all other school holidays, the remaining 7 weeks
RATE OF PAY
£13.00 per hour and 0.40p a mile when I am in the car with you.
TASKS INVOLVED
Taking me to some of my favourites places and activities, such as the park, bowling and cinema
Reminding and assisting me to use the toilet
Sometimes I can have a toileting accident so you will need to assist me
You are fully responsible for keeping me safe in the community and being mindful of possible danger around us as I do not understand any of this
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Awareness and understanding of childcare and safety
Patient, kind and friendly
You must be sensible, mature and reliable
Full UK driver’s license and access to a car is essential
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
Please note: Dewis Centre for Independent Living is acting on behalf of a third party and will not serve as your employer or be liable for any issues arising from your employment should you be offered the position.
