Summary

Multi Trade Technician
Department: Estates
Salary: £27,476 to £28,991 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week

Reference: REC2360 | Closing date: Sunday, 22nd February 2026

The Opportunity

Our Estates department is responsible for the upkeep of 17 buildings, primarily based in the town centre, with additional campuses located further afield. With a team of approximately 75 colleagues, including cleaning, maintenance, and office based staff, we work collaboratively to ensure our campuses are safe, functional, and welcoming at all times.

In this varied role, you will be involved in both reactive and planned preventative maintenance, carrying out a wide range of tasks that keep our buildings and equipment operating effectively. No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands on, dynamic working environment and wants to continue developing their skills.

You will benefit from flexible working hours, participation in an on call rota, and full support to carry out your role effectively, including transport and all necessary tools and equipment. You will also work closely with external contractors and partners to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. From time to time, you may assist with enquiries from external stakeholders.

Compliance and health and safety are key aspects of the role, but full training will be provided, ensuring you feel confident and supported in meeting all requirements.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated and supportive team and play a vital role in maintaining high quality facilities across Barnsley College.

About You

We are looking for a practical, hands on Multi Trade Technician with experience in building maintenance, such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, or a similar trade. You will be confident carrying out repairs, diagnosing issues, and completing both planned and reactive maintenance tasks across a variety of buildings and equipment.

This is a busy and varied role, so you will need to be adaptable, organised, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively. As part of the on call rota, flexibility is essential, and you should feel comfortable responding to urgent maintenance requirements when needed.

We are keen to hear from individuals who are eager to broaden their skillset. While a general understanding of plumbing, electrical work, or joinery is important, you will be supported by experienced maintenance colleagues and the Maintenance Manager to further develop your knowledge and capabilities.

Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will work closely with colleagues, contractors, and external stakeholders. A commitment to working safely and complying with health and safety regulations is also key, and full training will be provided to support you in this area.
Above all, we are looking for someone with a proactive approach, strong work ethic, and pride in maintaining high standards across our estate.

Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity. When submitting your application, please outline how you meet these requirements.

Required

• GCSE Maths and English (Level 2) or willingness to work towards.
• PMO, trade-specific, or equivalent qualification, or willingness to obtain.
• Minimum two years' experience in a maintenance role.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, and joinery.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Closing date for applications is Sunday, 22nd February 2026. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early depending on the level of interest.
