Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 7 Neonatal Physiotherapist to join our neonatal team on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist who is passionate about delivering specialist neonatal care, shaping best practice, and providing high-quality, family-centred support.
The post holder should have a strong clinical background in paediatrics with experience working with infants and children with complex needs and ideally experience within neonatal care. The post includes delivering developmentally informed, evidence-based physiotherapy across our Level 2 Neonatal Unit, supporting infants with a wide range of medical and developmental needs and working closely with their families.
A key component of the role includes leading the physiotherapy-led developmental follow-up service at 3 and 12 months and contributing to the 2-year Bayley developmental assessment clinics alongside our Consultant Paediatricians. You will play an integral role in identifying early developmental concerns, supporting early intervention, and contributing to longer-term outcome planning together with community teams.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive, forward-thinking neonatal service where developmentally supportive care, family partnership and interdisciplinary working are central to practice.
1. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care.
2. To provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and diagnosis as an autonomous practitioner, for neonatal patients with complex presentations, by utilising advanced neurological, developmental, orthopaedic and respiratory assessment skills as indicated.
3. To formulate and deliver an individualised physiotherapy programme using advanced clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment methods.
4. To co-ordinate intervention and support NNU and MDT colleagues to continue the therapy program.
5. To fully engage parents and carers in the delivery of the physiotherapy programme.
6. To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans for onward referral or discharge, liaising with others outside the Trust as required.
7. To continually reassess patients in order to progress treatments effectively.
8. To work within a legal framework for those patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
9. To be a lead specialist in neonatal and neurodevelopmental physiotherapy within the physiotherapy department, Neonatal Unit and Paediatric Service, informing and advising patients, carers and other members of staff on appropriate pathways and approaches.
