Summary
The post holder will act as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Bailiwick of Guernsey (including Alderney, Sark and other Islands) and will be responsible for ensuring the States of Guernsey fulfils its obligations for managing allegations against staff and volunteers working with children, young people and vulnerable adults in any setting. The Designated Safeguarding Officer is an independent role overseeing the management of allegations against persons in a position of trust who work with children or vulnerable adults across the Bailiwick of Guernsey. This role involves partnership working with the police, child and adult social care teams, Employers (including Charitable Boards) across the Bailiwick, and other relevant professionals. The Designated Safeguarding Officer will provide advice to employers or charitable Boards regarding the necessary steps to be taken, including providing advice on undertaking formal investigations which must reflect thoroughness, timeliness, and fairness and compliance with local legislation and employer obligations. As part of this role, the postholder will chair strategy discussions and coordinate multidisciplinary investigations. To ensure impartiality, the Designated Safeguarding Officer will not have any direct contact with the adult against whom the allegation has been made, or the child or vulnerable adult and their families at the centre of the allegation.
