Summary

Are you an experienced engineer with strong knowledge of critical environments and HV systems? Are you ready to lead a high‑performing team in one of Santander's key Data Centre locations?


We're looking for a Data Centre Shift Team Leader to oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensure the highest standards of safety and reliability, and support the ongoing performance of mission‑critical infrastructure.

As a Shift Team Leader, you'll play a key role in keeping the Data Centres running smoothly. You will:

Lead & Support the Shift Team
  • Plan and coordinate daily shift activities to ensure consistent performance across all teams.
  • Supervise Data Centre Shift Engineers to ensure safe, efficient maintenance and operation of all M&E systems.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, statutory logbooks and activity records.
Maintain Critical Infrastructure
  • Carry out high‑standard planned and reactive maintenance across electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Accurately document maintenance activity to keep the CAFM system updated.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying technical issues and suggesting innovations.
HV & Safety Responsibilities
  • Undertake Authorised Person (HV AP) responsibilities for the safe operation of high voltage switchgear.
  • Review and approve safe systems of work, issue Permits to Work and Authority to Work.
  • Manage critical spares and ensure service providers meet quality and compliance standards.
Operational Excellence
  • Support incident management, including initial response and root‑cause investigations.
  • Work closely with the Data Centre Operations Manager to ensure critical services remain fully operational.
  • Source and review quotations, prioritise tasks, and react effectively to breakdowns and changing priorities.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • HV Authorised Person qualification (essential).
Experience & Skills
  • Strong engineering background within a critical environment (e.g., data centre, hospital, high‑availability operations).
  • Broad knowledge of HVAC, building services, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and people‑management skills.
  • Able to manage incidents, respond quickly and use initiative on a continental shift pattern.
  • Good administrative skills with experience maintaining statutory inspection/test records.
  • Customer‑focused, proactive, and comfortable supervising contractors and service providers.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites when required (typically within one main building).

Location:

  • Santander Carlton Park Data Centres

Shift Pattern:

  • 12‑hour shifts - 6 on / 4 off / 4 on / 6 off
