Summary
Role Purpose
The Contact Supervision Worker will provide safe, child-focused, and professionally supervised contact between children and their parents or family members, in line with care plans, court directions, and statutory guidance.
The role is central to promoting the safety, welfare, and emotional wellbeing of children, while ensuring contact sessions are conducted in a controlled, supportive, and neutral environment.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support contact sessions between children and parents/family members in accordance with care plans and court orders.
Ensure all contact sessions are safe, structured, and child-centred, prioritising the welfare of the child at all times.
Prepare contact rooms and ensure environments are welcoming, safe, and appropriate.
Observe interactions objectively and intervene appropriately where safeguarding concerns arise.
Accurately record observations of contact sessions, including attendance, interactions, and any concerns, producing clear written reports.
Share relevant information with social workers and managers in a timely and professional manner.
Manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally, maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Support children emotionally before, during, and after contact sessions.
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality procedures.
Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where required to meet service demand.
Undertake any additional duties consistent with the grade and responsibilities of the role.
Safeguarding & Professional Practice
Act in accordance with Children Act legislation, safeguarding procedures, and Birmingham Children’s Trust policies.
Immediately escalate any safeguarding concerns or incidents in line with established procedures.
Maintain professional neutrality and avoid offering advice or opinions to family members.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Experience working with children, young people, and families, particularly in supervised or supported settings.
Good understanding of child safeguarding principles and child-centred practice.
Ability to observe, assess, and record interactions accurately and objectively.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage sensitive and emotionally challenging situations calmly.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice.
Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs.
Desirable Criteria
Experience of supervised contact work within a local authority or children’s services setting.
Knowledge of family court processes and statutory contact arrangements.
Experience writing reports for social workers or court-related processes.

DBS: Enhanced DBS check required
Compliance: Subject to full agency pre-employment checks
Confidentiality: High level of discretion required at all times
