Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Main Purpose of the Role

• Support teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) (children from 2 years to 5 years)
• Work 1:1 and with small groups of children to support their development and learning
• Assist with planning and delivering EYFS curriculum activities, ensuring a focus on the importance of purposeful play in the very early years development
• Observe and record children’s progress to inform next steps in learning
• Report directly to the room leader

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high quality support to children across all areas of the EYFS curriculum
• Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment for all children
• Encourage and facilitate purposeful play and learning opportunities
• Observe, assess and record individual children’s progress, sharing insights with the room leader and wider team
• Support children with a range of additional needs, adapting activities as required
• Assist in the preparation of resources and the organisation of learning environments
• Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues
• Help maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming classroom environment
• Adhere to all safeguarding and health & safety policies and procedures
• Attend relevant training and team meetings as required

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• Full and relevant qualification to work in EYFS - essential
• Paediatric first aid qualification – desirable
• A good standard of education including Maths and English GCSEs minimum grade 4

Experience

• Experience supporting teaching and learning in an EYFS setting
• Experience working with children individually and in small groups

Skills and Knowledge

• Good knowledge of the EYFS framework and its application in a school setting
• Understanding of the importance of play in early years development
• Ability to observe and accurately record children’s progress
• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team
• Awareness of safeguarding and child protection procedures
