About the role

Join Our Team as a Caretaker & Library Courier (30 hours per week)
Bury Library Service

Are you practical, reliable, and looking for a role where every day makes a difference in your local community? We’re looking for a proactive and hands-on individual to support our libraries by delivering a highquality caretaking and courier service across Bury.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our team, you’ll help keep our library buildings safe, welcoming, and running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

Building Care & Maintenance

  • Carrying out daytoday minor repairs and general handyperson tasks
  • Helping to maintain secure, wellpresented library buildings
  • Using your initiative to spot and resolve maintenance issues
    (A trade background is desirable but not essential.)

Courier & Van Driving Duties

  • Driving the Bury Library van to deliver and collect books, equipment, mail, and other items across all branch libraries
  • Completing routine vehicle safety checks
  • Holding and maintaining a clean, valid driving licence

Supporting Our Home Library Service

  • Delivering books to housebound residents across the borough
  • Offering friendly, sensitive communication to customers from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Providing a reliable, customer-focused service that brightens someone’s day

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with building maintenance or caretaking (publicfacing settings desirable)
  • Practical skills and confidence carrying out minor repairs
  • A strong commitment to customer care
  • A warm, approachable communicator
  • Someone who enjoys an active, varied role

Working Hours

This post is 30 hours per week, with some flexibility in how these hours can be arranged. Final working patterns will be agreed between the successful candidate and the manager.
