Summary
This is a front-facing role at the centre of the practice. You will work on reception and phones, managing a high volume of patient contact throughout the day. You will welcome patients, handle enquiries in person and by telephone, book and amend appointments, take and pass on messages accurately, and support safe patient access to clinical services. The way you communicate and manage information directly affects patient care, so clear communication, strong customer service skills and attention to detail are essential. The work is constant and fast paced. You must be able to prioritise tasks, manage pressure and remain calm, polite and professional at all times. Patients may be anxious, frustrated or distressed, and you are expected to respond in a supportive, respectful and controlled way. Accuracy matters in this role. You will be responsible for recording information correctly, following practice processes carefully, handling confidential information safely and ensuring messages are passed on without delay. Mistakes in reception can affect patient care, so taking responsibility for doing things properly is important. You will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues and are expected to be reliable, punctual and consistent. You will contribute to the smooth running of the day, support colleagues during busy periods and help maintain a welcoming, organised and professional reception area. Purbeck Health Centre is a busy general practice with clear standards. Our reception team plays a key role in how patients experience the practice. The service you provide and the way you present yourself matters. This role suits someone who genuinely wants to work in general practice, understands the responsibility involved, and cares about patient experience. It is not a quiet or low-pressure role and requires resilience, organisation and a positive attitude. Flexibility is required to help cover sickness or annual leave when needed, with occasional availability between 8:00am and 6:30pm.
