Summary

1) In collaboration with the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner (LRP), Resuscitation Practitioners (RP) and the Resuscitation Committee, the JRP will assist with the development and delivery of a strategic resuscitation service and ensure they are implemented and responsive to patients needs across the Trust. 2) To assist the LRP with the co-ordination and supervision of the resuscitation service working within the post holder’s area of responsibility. 3) Input of data to resuscitation databases - resuscitation outcomes, clinical risks, all training programmes and participant attendance. 4) Provide and circulate data to relevant stakeholders as directed by the Clinical Lead for Resuscitation 5) Provide guidance, support and supervision to both the Resuscitation Trainer and the Resuscitation Service Technician 6) Ensure any requested resuscitation related audits are carried out and reported formally to the LRP and any other committee deemed suitable by the LRP Education and Training 1) Deliver basic/immediate/intermediate life support sessions unsupervised following predetermined lesson plans ,following a period of supervision, in a variety of flexible ways. 2) Assess the competence of staff in performing resuscitation procedures and arrange more regular retraining where appropriate. 3) To assist in the maintenance of training records and databases as needed by the Service. 4) Ensure that the appropriate and efficient use of supplies is made and exercise economy in the use of consumables. 5) To ensure that the training manikins are cleaned and maintained according to Trust Policy. 6) To actively participate in giving and receiving peer review of teaching skills and abilities as part of on-going professional development. 7) Where appropriate, to attend clinical emergencies in order to support advice and guide Resuscitation Team members. 8) To ensure that all staff is aware of changes in evidence base practice related to resuscitation care as disseminated from the Resuscitation Council (UK). Research & Audit 1) Assist with the implementation of appropriate audit tools and data entry for all resuscitation activities/local and or national patient safety drivers for the purpose of measuring adherence to Trust policies and projects. 2) Assist with data gathering, analysis and the production of audit reports for the Clinical Lead for Resuscitation, Resuscitation Committee and other relevant stakeholders and assist with developing action plans that sustain a dynamic quality improvement programme. 3) To be actively involved with the undertaking of resuscitation/critical care research projects Clinical Support & Practice 1) Provide clinical support and advice as required when attending a cardiac arrest or medical emergency call as an active member of the team. 2) Ensure Resuscitation Team members have access to psychological support and clinical supervision. Assist with the provision of debriefing of staff involved in sensitive situations as appropriate. 3) Provide support and guidance to colleagues in any resuscitation – related decision-making process. 4) To communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of people within the Trust. 5) Ensure accurate documentation in line with the post holders registering body’s code of professional conduct Clinical Governance 1) To ensure timely reporting of critical incidents as per Trust policy. 2) Report any resuscitation equipment deficits and ensure that appropriate action has taken place. 3) Ensure resuscitation equipment in all areas is checked on a regular basis, is regularly appraised and risks assessed. 4) Identify consistently poor performers and discuss concerns with the LRP Professional 1) To keep updated with issues related to resuscitation and professional regulatory bodies i.e. NMC, GMC, HCPC etc. 2) To be an effective role model and demonstrate high standards amongst all levels of the multidisciplinary team. 3) To be a member of the Trust’s Resuscitation Committee. Attend meetings on a regular basis to provide feedback. 4) Ensure continuation of own professional education and development. 5) Promote and maintain effective working relationships throughout the Trust ensuring high standards of care and service. 6) Act at all times as a patient advocate and expert communicator. 7) Act at all times in accordance with the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust guidelines and those set via other relevant regulatory bodies i.e. NMC, GMC, HCPC with particular reference to limitations of competence and conduct.
