Summary

TEIKYO UNIVERSITY OF JAPAN IN DURHAM (Durham University Affiliated Employer) wishes to recruit a part-time Housekeeper / Domestic Cleaner.


· Day Shifts – 0645 – 1330hrs Mon, Wed, Fri. 0645 – 0845hrs Tue & Thu

· 24.25 hours per week / Permanent

· Gross annual salary circa £15,397

· Reporting to the Head Housekeeper and responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across residential, teaching and office spaces.

· Desirable knowledge: Computer literacy, basic first aid.

JOB TITLE: HOUSEKEEPER / DOMESTIC CLEANER (PART TIME – 24.25 HOURS WEEKLY – PERMANENT)


WORK LOCATION: Shoichi Hall, Etsuko Hall, Lafcadio Hearn Cultural Centre and all other Teikyo University of Japan in Durham (TUID) sites


RESPONSIBLE TO: Bursar, through the Head Housekeeper



SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsible to the Head Housekeeper for:


· Cleaning and maintaining Halls of Residence, classrooms, offices, communal areas and facilities to a consistently high standard;

· Ensuring that all areas are cleaned in accordance with agreed schedules, checklists and health & safety requirements;

· Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitising and replenishing consumables where required;

· Reporting, recording and escalating any maintenance issues, damages or health & safety concerns identified during cleaning duties;

· Working respectfully and professionally within student accommodation, ensuring student welfare, privacy and cultural awareness at all times;

· Using cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH regulations and training;

· Ensuring cleaning stores, cupboards and equipment are kept secure, tidy and well organised;

· Supporting ad-hoc cleaning requirements during student arrivals, departures, events and inspections;

· Working flexibly to cover occasional sickness or leave within the housekeeping team as required.



ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES


· A reliable, conscientious and professional approach to work;

· Previous cleaning or domestic experience (institutional or commercial preferred);

· Ability to work independently and as part of a small team;

· An understanding of health & safety and hygiene standards;

· A positive attitude and interest in supporting student welfare;

· Flexibility to support operational requirements of a residential educational environment.
