Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting an extremely inclusive and supportive single-form entry primary school in Warrington as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated teaching assistant for a long-term full-time temporary contract, starting after the half-term and lasting the rest of the academic year subject to funding.
This school is at the heart of its local community and is held in high regard. They are looking for a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join the reception class to support a pupil with profound SEND on a 1:1 basis. This pupil is new to the school and already has an EHCP in place, with their main areas of needs being speech and language and ASD. You will take a pupil-centred approach to their education, ensuring that their full needs are met and at the heart of all operations. You will support them both inside and outside the classroom, acting as their main point of contact throughout the school day with core duties including:
- Speech and language support i.e., basic SALT, Makaton and PECs
- Intimate/personal care
- Positive behaviour support, i.e., utilising sensory room, traffic light systems, positive reinforcement, sensory stimuli and fidget toys
- Accurately record pupil progress, including recognising key milestones
- Giving valid input during meetings
- Reporting to SENCO to give direct feedback
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable classroom experience, and:
- Be at minimum NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualified
- Having experience supporting SEN on a 1:1 basis, ASD and non-verbal is highly advantageous
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
- Experience using Makaton and/or PECs
