Summary


The Surgical Assessment Unit is looking for a ward clerk to join our team. Hours can be discussed at interview.

The Ward Clerk on a Surgical Assessment Unit plays a vital administrative and coordination role, supporting the safe and efficient flow of patients through the unit. The post holder acts as the central point of contact for patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary clinical team, ensuring accurate documentation, effective communication, and smooth day-to-day ward operations.

Working in a fast-paced acute environment, the Ward Clerk helps maintain patient records, manages admissions and discharges, coordinates investigations and appointments, and supports clinical staff by handling non-clinical tasks. The role is essential in ensuring high standards of patient care, confidentiality, and organisational efficiency.


• Act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors
• Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges on electronic systems
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
• Liaise with surgeons, nurses, theatre staff, bed management, and other departments
• Arrange investigations, clinic appointments, and transport as required
• Answer and direct telephone calls and respond to queries promptly
• Prepare notes for ward rounds, admissions, and discharges
• Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and trust policies
• Support the ward team in prioritising workload during busy periods
