HTC would like to invite applications from dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Teachers of Geography who believe in teaching and learning through enjoyable, memorable lessons which inspire students to succeed. We believe that every student deserves the very best education and places them at the centre of the learning process.
We are seeking to appoint a hard-working and enthusiastic department member who will contribute to the high standards of Geography teaching and believes Geography matters. You will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality lessons and achieving excellent results for the students. The department has excellent facilities for teaching Geography that includes a dedicated block of classrooms with excellent IT access. The successful candidate will be hard-working, well-qualified and will offer Geography to KS3 and KS4.
HTC is committed to providing the highest quality of learning for all students in every lesson. We have an Ofsted rating of outstanding and good (Ofsted November 2024). HTC is a ‘college where students’ academic achievements and their personal development is extremely strong, Ofsted commented on the personalised education and innovative curriculum, the calm atmosphere, and well-behaved students who are highly respectful and have positive attitudes to learning. Staff training, support and welfare were seen to be exceptional. ‘Parents are overwhelmingly positive and appreciate the care and support their children receive’.
This post would suit someone with a passion for this subject, either an experienced Geography Teacher or an ECT. We comprehensively support all new staff and have tailored programmes for ECTs, staff returning to the profession and those seeking a career change. The College is committed to professional development and will seek, where possible, to support staff in their ambitions to further themselves.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding our vacancy for a full-time Teacher of Geography, from September 2026.
Horndean Technology College is looking for a dynamic and proactive teacher with energy and a passion for Geography to join the department at a very exciting time.
The successful candidate will be hard working, well-qualified and will offer the teaching of Geography to both KS3 and KS4. The ultimate goal for the department is for all students to succeed and achieve excellence by acquiring a sound knowledge base of both human and physical Geography in order to explore and learn about the interconnectedness of our world’s changing places, processes, people and cultural capital. The team provides quality teaching and are committed to using innovative and creative approaches which include using a range of teaching and learning strategies to raise the achievement of students.
Geography is currently taught by three specialists in either a full-time or part-time capacity. The department is based in a suite of specialist rooms, as well as having the use of an IT suite. Geography is taught in mixed ability groups in Years 7 and 8, with students able to opt for subjects in Year 9. Geography remains one of the highest option subjects in Year 9 and 10. We also offer an early entry route to our Year 9 students. Our KS3 curriculum ensures all students are given the opportunity to access a broad and balanced curriculum. At GCSE, students are sitting the AQA specification.
The Department seek ways to embed Global Awareness across the College through the curriculum and pastoral care. Currently, extra-curricular activities and support are focused on revision; however, we would like to extend our extra-curricular offer in the future.
Staff new to the College are expected to take part in a comprehensive induction programme, designed to foster the common maintenance and development of the College’s ethos and practices.
