Role Overview
As our Nursery Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks tailored to the dietary needs of young children. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our nursery meets the highest standards of food hygiene and nutrition, contributing to the health and happiness of the children we look after.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines and children’s dietary requirements.
Ensure all food preparation areas and equipment are clean, hygienic, and compliant with food safety regulations.
Work closely with nursery staff to accommodate allergies, intolerances, and special dietary needs.
Manage inventory and stock levels, ordering supplies as needed to maintain efficient kitchen operations.
Maintain accurate records of food consumption and ensure portion sizes meet nutritional standards.
Promote and encourage healthy eating habits among children through engaging and enjoyable meal experiences.
Adhere to all relevant health and safety legislation and internal policies.
Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to enhance the nursery’s food service.
Qualifications & Experience
Previous experience as a cook within a nursery, childcare setting, or similar environment is highly desirable.
Good understanding of child nutrition and dietary requirements for young children.
Knowledge of food hygiene standards and relevant health and safety legislation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a friendly, supportive team.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one upon appointment.
