Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you'll be doing
Work Location: Project based role complying with the Company’s flexible working
policies – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.
Experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs and income within their area of responsibility. They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Preferably, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, CICES or CIOB or working to achieve in the near future. Experience of managing a small team of commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified is desirable. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Dimensions
- Financial: Manages all costs and income within their area of responsibility
- Organisational: Direct reports could include Apprentice QS, Trainee QS, Graduate or Assistant QSs
Interfaces
- Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team
- External: Supply Chain, Customers, Stakeholders, Professional and Industry Bodies
Accountabilities
Governance
- Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance
requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities
Commercial Management and Administration
- Requests information and systematically checks data
- Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
- Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
- Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
- Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
- Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
- Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation and report to senior project staff
Customer/Change Management
- Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management
- Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
- Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
- Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
Procurement
- Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
- Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Development, Recruitment and Retention
- Supports the recruitment, supervision and development of team members
Who we're looking for
Essentials - The following qualifications or their equivalent are essential:
• BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
• Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
• CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
