As an Administrator in our Justice and Immigration team, you’ll play an essential role in supporting the Governance department and People Services Manager at HMP Ashfield. You’ll help keep operations running smoothly by providing reliable, accurate, and confidential administrative support that enables colleagues to focus on delivering meaningful work that positively impacts people and communities.
This is a varied role where you’ll work closely with teams across the prison, using your organisational skills, attention to detail, and initiative to help ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Your work will contribute directly to the safe, effective running of the establishment, helping create a better future for those in our care and the colleagues you work alongside.
What you’ll do as a Business Support Assistant
You’ll be entrusted to:
Book visitors in on the CMS system.
Carry out payroll administration tasks.
Process staff absences.
Operate the switchboard.
Support the mail room as required.
Attend meetings, take minutes, and prepare supporting papers.
Handle sensitive and confidential material appropriately.
Provide ad hoc administrative support as needed.
Prepare internal and external responses to incoming communications.
Log data onto spreadsheets.
Carry out filing, correspondence, and other administrative tasks.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
Previous experience in a busy administrative office.
Payroll experience.
Proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint.
The ability to demonstrate discretion and diplomacy.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Secretarial or administrative qualifications.
A collaborative approach and willingness to support events and activities.
Vetting and checks:
Enhanced Level 1 Vetting check will be carried out for this role.
