Summary

Charlie is 18 and attends sixth form currently in Blackpool. He has a muscle wasting condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This means that he has to use a wheelchair full time and needs assistance with all his care needs. This includes getting him out of bed, dressing, toileting, assisting with eating, bathing and putting him to bed and taking him out to where he wants to go, attending hospital appointments, or just sit chatting to him or just being in whilst he plays his Xbox. It would also include preparing his food, tidying and cleaning his room, ironing and washing his clothes. You must be prepared to undertake full training in manual handling, first aid, personal care and respiratory equipment that he uses.

The PA role requires you to be over 18 and it would be desirable but not essential for you to have a full clean driving licence as you will be expected to drive the wheelchair accessible van. You must have a DBS check and we can organise for you to have one done at no extra cost.

Hours available are 9.30am - 8.30pm Sat and Sun with some additional hours available particularly during school holidays. A job share will be considered.

The rate of pay is £14 per hour and you receive 5.6 weeks holiday per year pro rate.

You need a good sense of humour as Charlie is a funny, witty young person. He is able to communicate all his needs and will tell you exactly how he wants things done! We just need the right people for the role to join the team, he is very precious to us and we need trustworthy, reliable and friendly people to help care for him. It is very difficult for him but he takes everything in his stride. We do have a lot of fun with Charlie, he is a typical teenager but quite sociable and enjoys chatting, listening to Radio 2 and playing on his Xbox. He also takes his wheelchair football seriously and likes trying out local pubs for food and will drag you along with him! If you want to speak to one of his current PA’s this can be arranged.
