Summary

Barnardo's provides supported accommodation to young people aged 16-24 across a number of sites in Lancashire. The service aims to provide young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for independent living. The young people who live in our accommodation are from a range of backgrounds and are often either in the process of Leaving Care or have experienced homelessness. The services are staffed 24 hours per day by a dedicated team. Young people can live within our accommodation for up to 2 years so that they can move on successfully to their own accommodation in a planned and coordinated way.

The service that this post links to is:

2a High Street – this service is based in the centre of Lancaster and provides accommodation and support for 7 young people at any one time.

Mariner's View – this service is based in the centre of Lancaster and is comprised of 11 self-contained flats, supporting 11 young people at any one time.



Working Hours

The successful candidate will undertake some shifts as part of a rota that covers 7 days per week and 365 days per year. At the moment all of our Project Workers at 2a High Street work a mixture of the following shifts:

08:00 – 16:00
11:00-19:00
14:00 – 22:00



Initial Specific Responsibilities

24 hour staffing 7 days per week is required in our supported accommodation services and we wish to identify a new team member to join our team of reliable and high quality workers, to assist us in the delivery of the service.

The successful candidate will be highly skilled at working with young people who have a range of issues. They will be able to work effectively, sometimes on their own, within a supported accommodation environment to ensure the young people are safe and able to develop their independent living skills.

To be successful in this role you will need to have a range of skills and abilities, and most importantly you will need to enjoy the challenges and rewards of working with young people. The successful candidate will have a planned induction and will participate in range of training.

This is a Senior Support Worker role, and as such the successful candidates will be:

effective at making assessment of need and risk
highly skilled in managing complex safeguarding issues within multi-agency frameworks.
have service user participation as a core value within their practice


This role will involve deputising for the manager in their absence and may involve the supervision of staff.

This role will be primarily based at 2a High Street, Lancaster

Please note this role will require some shift work as part of a 7 day rota

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the “Standby Rota” which covers 365 days per year. Staff on standby could be deployed to sites across Lancashire to deal with a staffing shortage or emergency situation.
