We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of IT Specialist 's at the 48 Communications Squadron , Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
We are looking for a Senior Information Technology Specialist to oversee the end-to-end management of our base Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN). This pivotal role involves overseeing the entire network life cycle. Your responsibilities will include the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of our networked systems for voice, data, and video transmission. You will conduct feasibility studies on complex information systems, analyze and solve novel challenges, and optimize system performance. As a key technical advisor, you will keep abreast of emerging technology to predict future needs and provide expert recommendations for system modifications and equipment acquisition.
Qualification requirements:
The applicant must have at minimum 2 years of specialized experience as per the required key skills

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
2. Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level.
3. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
4. Knowledge of complex configuration management techniques, and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems.
5. Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems; and to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.
6. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Your work hours will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed (Mon-Fri 0730-1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies
8. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position. IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity. Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
9. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
10. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, CAT B UK valid driver's license is required for the position.
11. Emergency overtime may be required, but is not guaranteed.
12. Employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance required for this position; UK NATO clearance required.
13. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
