Summary

Electronic Design Engineer
Fareham | 6 Month FTC |
Up to £60,000 DOE

A leading specialist in electronic manufacturing services is seeking an experienced Electronic Design Engineer to join their Fareham team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension to go permanent.

Role Overview Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will design and optimise PCB schematics and layouts to ensure manufacturability, performance, and compliance with customer and industry requirements. This is a hands-on role working closely with customers, account managers, production and quality to turn design concepts into production-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and optimise PCB schematics and multilayer layouts for manufacturability and performance.

- Review and select suitable components for electronic designs.

- Specify PCB fabrication requirements (copper weight, core materials, solder mask types).

- Create assembly instructions and highlight special build requirements.

- Collaborate with production to resolve design-related assembly challenges and improve DFM/DFT.

- Provide technical support to purchasing (component sourcing) and production (prototypes to full-scale).

- Interface with Quality to investigate and resolve PCB design issues.

- Support other business areas as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements Essential:

- Strong expertise in PCB schematic capture and layout.

- Degree-level qualification in Electronics.

- Experience with ECAD tools (preferably Altium or Fusion/Eagle).

- Understanding of PCB trace routing, impedance control and material selection for digital circuit performance/reliability.

- Experience designing for EMC compliance (layout practices, mitigation techniques).

- Appreciation of project planning.

- Understanding of electronic enclosure selection/design.
