Summary

Duties and Responsibilities Communication and Working Relationship Skills To provide professional leadership to the OT team. Develop and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with service users, MDT members, carers, OT colleagues and other agencies and National services. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT service. Communicate complex and/or sensitive information consistent with service users level of understanding, culture and background. Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to decisions with regard to service users rehabilitation programmes. Analytical and Judgemental Skills To allocate, undertake and supervise occupational therapy assessments, addressing occupational performance and skills deficits, enabling the service user in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. Monitor and evaluate treatment in order to measure progress and effectiveness of intervention. To distribute OT workload. Analyse patient feedback from surveys and audits to improve service effectiveness Planning and Organisational Skills Responsible for organising and planning own caseload and managing clinical/non-clinical time effectively to fit with service needs and demands. Allocate caseload of OT team. Plan and implement the effective use of resources within designated area. Co-ordinate, allocate and manage group programme. Comply with Occupational Therapy policies and procedures to ensure smooth running of the service and to communicate problems or discrepancies to the line manager. Participate in and Chair as required all Team meetings, contribute to service planning and show leadership qualities in the management of operational issues as appropriate. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy Plan and implement individual and/or group OT interventions in collaboration with the service users, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. Ensure that accurate, up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards. Enable service users skills development through the implementation and use of qualified occupational therapy knowledge and skills which is grounded in up to date research and evidence. Evaluate the effectiveness of planned therapeutic activities and making any necessary relevant modifications. Ensure up to date Risk Assessments are in place for all OT activities. Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation Contribute to professional clinical governance arrangements in order to ensure the quality of the service provided. Contribute to evaluation and future planning of the service. Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources Report any issues of health and safety to the line manager, following Trust guidelines and policies. Order/monitor and maintain any stock requirements in liaison with the line manager. To have an awareness of and work within the OT budget. Undertake management of petty cash transactions as per Trust Financial Standing Orders/Procedures and service policy Responsibility for Human Resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management Provide supervision for OT team and act as fieldwork educator for students as requested by the senior/Head OT. Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties To record contemporaneous and accurate records of patient interventions, in accordance with professional standards and Trust policy. To make accurate statistical records in order to demonstrate the provision of an efficient and effective quality service. Assist with departmental/service audits as required.
