Long Term Futures is seeking a proactive, patient, and engaging Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 class in a welcoming and inclusive primary school in West Ealing. This role is primarily general classroom support, with a focus on helping pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to stay engaged, confident, and ready to learn.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, building relationships, and supporting pupils academically and emotionally within a KS2 setting.
About the Role
Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team, you will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the class during whole-class teaching, group work and independent tasks
- Providing targeted small-group and 1:1 support for pupils with EAL needs
- Encouraging language development through modelling, questioning and discussion
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs through clear boundaries and positive reinforcement
- Helping pupils stay focused, regulated and confident during lessons and transitions
- Assisting with lesson preparation, resources and classroom routines
- Building strong relationships to promote engagement and positive behaviour
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting pupils in KS2, or a strong interest in upper primary
- Understanding of EAL strategies and inclusive classroom practice
- Calm, consistent and empathetic approach to behaviour and emotional support
- Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly
- Proactive, reliable and committed for the full academic year
