Summary
The Royal Marsden Hospital leads in the provision of diagnostics and treatment for Urology cancers, delivered through the Urology Treatment Team, across the two hospital sites in London and Surrey. Our nursing team plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive seamless, compassionate care at every stage of their pathway.
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated person to take up the post of Lead Nurse for the Urology Treatment Team offered on a fixed term contract within the Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a service that is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and driving continuous improvement.
The successful candidate is required to work across sites and, in addition to clinical duties, will both lead and participate in audit, project work, research, education provision and clinical service development.
Working alongside the Divisional Nurse Director in Cancer Services and the General Manager for Urology. The Lead Nurse is responsible for the line management of the Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist across sites (Cavendish Square, Chelsea, Kingston, Sutton). With them, you will be responsible for leading and developing a person focused, supportive nursing care service for patients with Urology cancers, acting as a specialist resource across the Trust and regional network.
A degree of flexibility is required to ensure an equal Lead Nurse presence on both sites.
Lead and be responsible for the delivery of effective nursing for a complex group of patients and their families, ensuring compassionate and efficient care and making certain the patient is always central to the service and how it is delivered.
Act as part of the senior management team for the Division within the Clinical Business Unit (CBU), working closely with the Service Manager, Clinical Director, Divisional Nurse Director and Divisional Director to deliver the Trust strategy within the Division.
Overall responsibility for the daily operational management of the ANPs and CNSs. The post holder will look at developing new and different ways of working in order to improve the patient pathway.
Contribute to the relationship management of referring trusts, supporting partnership working with other organisations where appropriate.
Act as a professional positive role model, promoting expert clinical practice and shaping the care delivered within the wards and day care areas within Cancer Services.
Line manage the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Research nurse leads and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) (where appropriate) within Cancer Services, and have oversight of the resource including overall budget responsibility (where appropriate).
Lead the patient experience agenda within the division, working closely with other Heads of Department where appropriate, lead on promoting improvement and action plan and deliver on any area of concern.

To provide a clear focus for nursing, giving a highly visible and authoritative presence within the units. To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality care and ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery whatever the setting.
To work maintain a clinical case load
Ensure CNSs work at an advanced practice level, providing a specialist service and level of expertise in their specialist area ensure their interventions are timely and well documented.
To identify and deal effectively with poor practice or declining standards of care and have oversight of the resource management on the wards, ensuring responsible use of resources whilst promoting safe/effective care
Attend Senior Nurse Meetings and act as a representative at Divisional and Trust meetings.
Increase nursing influence in decision making and enhance the contribution of nursing to the clinical management of patients within the service.
The Royal Marsden has a reputation for teaching, education and research, and the Lead Nurse will be required to uphold and strengthen this reputation by attending conferences, sharing knowledge and expertise through visits and presentations, and initiating and supporting research and service development.
To lead on recruitment and retention strategies across their areas, including leading on, and delivering strategies in reducing the use of temporary staffing.
