Summary
Head of School - Alternative Provision
Location: Birkenhead, Merseyside
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
We are working on behalf of a well-established independent alternative provision in Birkenhead to recruit an experienced and inspirational Head of School.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a passionate education professional who is committed to improving outcomes for young people who require additional support and alternative pathways back into education.
The Role
As Head of School, you will:
Lead the day-to-day operational performance of the school
Ensure the school is always inspection-ready and compliant with Independent School Standards
Oversee curriculum delivery across core subjects (English, Maths and Science)
Lead, support and develop staff teams, promoting high expectations and positive behaviour
Drive safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion and pastoral support
Build strong relationships with learners, staff, parents/carers and external agencies
Promote a positive learning culture and reintegration outcomes for pupils
The Ideal Candidate
You will have:
QTS or QTLS (or overseas equivalent)
A degree in a relevant subject
Proven leadership experience (e.g. Head of Department, SLT, Head of School/Headteacher)
Experience working with vulnerable learners, SEN and/or alternative provision settings
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, compliance and school leadership responsibilities
Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
NPQH (or working towards) - desirable
