Crynodeb
The Clerical Officer provides comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of clinics across both St Jamess Hospital and Seacroft Hospital. The post holder plays a key role in supporting patient pathways, clinic flow, and communication between patients, clinical staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities Manage patient appointment booking, rescheduling, and cancellations using the Trusts electronic patient record and appointment systems. Register patients accurately, update demographics, and ensure patient records are complete and up to date. Answer telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, GPs, and other healthcare professionals, dealing with queries appropriately and escalating where necessary. Support clinic preparation by printing clinic lists, preparing notes, and ensuring clinics are appropriately set up. Liaise closely with nursing staff, clinicians, and management to ensure effective clinic flow and minimise delays. Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards at all times in line with Trust policies. Undertake general administrative duties such as filing, scanning, data entry, and correspondence. Work flexibly across sites as required to meet service needs. Skills and Attributes Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centred approach. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload in a busy clinical environment. Good IT skills, including experience of electronic patient record systems. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Calm, professional manner when dealing with distressed or anxious patients, within Eye Clinic.
