Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an exceptional individual to join the Estates & Facilities Division as a Waste Assurance Officer. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the Trusts high standards of waste management across a large and complex estate. The post holder will support compliance, sustainability, and environmental performance, ensuring waste management practices meet statutory requirements and best practice standards. Working closely with the Waste Compliance Officer, the Waste Assurance Officer will audit, monitor, and support the operation of the Trust-wide Waste Management Strategy, contributing to continuous improvement and environmental stewardship across the Trust. Key Responsibilities The Waste Assurance Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Audit and monitor the operation of the Trust-wide Waste Management Strategy in line with current legislative requirements and best practice guidance. Undertake regular planned and unannounced audits across all Trust sites, covering both clinical and non-clinical waste streams, and provide timely, clear feedback to audited areas. Support the monitoring of the quantities and types of waste produced across Trust areas, including the development of comparative league tables to inform performance improvement. Assist in the effective operation of waste records management systems, ensuring data is robust, accurate, and auditable by external agencies when required. Provide waste compliance advice and guidance to Estates, Facilities, Infection Control, Medical, and Nursing staff within the scope of the post holders expertise. Assist in the production of monthly waste management data and reports, using a range of IT applications to support KPI monitoring and performance reporting. Contribute to the development, implementation, auditing, and ongoing review of the Trusts Waste Management Strategy, ensuring compliance with current legislation and recognised best practice. Working Relationships Works closely with the Waste Compliance Officer and Estates & Facilities colleagues. Engages with clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust to promote compliance, understanding, and continuous improvement in waste management practices. Liaises with external auditors and regulatory bodies as required.
