Summary


An excellent opportunity to work in a welcoming team with experienced leaders in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
Our team are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner with the ability to influence and promote best IPC practice across Barts Health Trust NHS. The IPC Practitioner will work with Barts Health Trust NHS staff to improve the practice and reduce hospital acquired infections. The post holder will provide leadership, mentorship and management to junior staff as well as peer support to the other Band 7 IPC Practitioners within the team.
The post requires working together with other stakeholders across the Trust to follow our Trust values and to ensure the IPC policy and guidelines are implemented into the Trust practice.
Our IPC service includes the management of isolation prioritisation to aid patients’ safety, training and education and working together with other leaders across the organisation.

The post holder will be expected to spend at least 70% of time within the clinical area providing training and support, education and advice to the clinical staff and 30% on project works (such as quality improvement projects).

• To support and assist the Infection Prevention & Control Team in providing an infection prevention & control service to the Trust (across all sites, including some community settings) in reducing the incidence of healthcare associated infections.

• The post holder will be expected to provide a proactive approach to prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infection within the Trust. This will include the review, formulation, implementation and education of evidence based infection control practices.

• The post holder would be expected to supervise, develop and identify the learning needs of the Infection Control Link Staff in liaison with the Service Lead, Clinical Director of Infection Prevention & Control and Lead Infection Prevention & Control Doctor.

• The post holder will be a strong patient advocate, ensuring that the care of patients reflects best clinical standards and that all patients are treated with dignity and respect.

• Actively support the Trust Lead Nurse, Clinical Director Infection Prevention & Control and Lead Infection Prevention & Control Doctor to develop Trust wide policies in infection prevention and control, including decontamination, ventilation, food handling, hand hygiene, clinical waste management, medical devices management, etc.
