Summary
We are looking for a Bank Matron to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing temporary cover when Matrons are absent to ensure the welfare and well-being of students and the smooth running of the domestic arrangements in Houses; this includes liaising with a Cleaning Supervisor and being prepared to be the “responsible adult” presence in the House. The successful candidate may also be requested to escort students to medical appointments or to A&E.
This is a casual contract, and hours are likely to be available up to 7 days a week on days/times being agreed. We have a particular need for cover from 7.30am to 6pm Monday-Friday and on Saturdays, with occasional need for evening or Sunday cover. Given the uncertain nature of any absences no guarantee of the amount of work available in any given month can be given. Ideally, the candidate will need to live within easy reach of the School so they can provide cover at short notice, if necessary.
The successful candidate will need to be able to build excellent relationships with young people, be supportive and caring. The post also calls for good organisational skills, IT literacy, the ability to remain calm under pressure and a flexible approach to duties. A first aid qualification is desirable but not essential as we can provide training, but a full driving licence is essential.
Rugby School is an independent boarding school of approximately 800 students and 100 full-time members of the teaching staff. Entry for most boys and girls is at 13, chiefly from preparatory schools via the Common Entrance or Scholarship Examination.
For more information and to apply: Please register and complete an application via our recruitment portal which can be found at www.rugbyschool.co.uk/about/employment-opportunities
Closing date: 8 February 2026
Applications will be considered upon receipt and we reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date. Therefore, an early application is strongly advised.
Please Note
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
