Summary

The successful candidate will work alongside community-based consultant colleagues to provide medical leadership for an experienced multi-disciplinary mental health team delivering assessment and treatment for patients with primarily memory patients sometimes a mixture of functional and organic illness. The OPMH service adopted a strategy of integrated care delivery. Inpatient care and medical input into the Older Peoples Crisis Team is provided by consultant colleagues within the acute care system and the post holder will work closely with them and with the colleagues within the liaison service to ensure care is well co-ordinated. The team meets for a weekly MDT meeting every Thursday, which is for case discussions, diagnosis, medication and clinical supervision for the nursing staff. It is expected that the Specialty Doctor will attend these meetings to support clinical decision-making and provide medical input to support the team. In addition, throughout the week, the Specialty Doctor will be available to respond to clinical queries arising from Peterborough MAS patients and those on the waiting list, providing timely advice and support to the nursing staff as required. The role also includes attending triage sessions once a week, for one hour (in the morning 9am-10am) to support clinical prioritisation and new referral case reviews. Its expected the doctor completes mixtures new assessments and follow up including home visits. This may be 3 new assessments or 2 new assessments and 2 follow ups. The job plan is flexible to take account of clinical and professional interests, including time within the job plan for suitably qualified and motivated individuals to develop interests such as teaching, research, QI and pursuing CESR or other relevant training to enhance their future career prospects. This year we responded swiftly to the need for remote working and now deliver the bulk of clinical assessments and all MDT team meetings via approved secure video platforms. This limits the need for travel.
