Summary
Assessing and initiating treatment, including IV thrombolysis for patients presenting with suspected acute stroke (under consultant supervision) Providing medical input for patients requiring treatment with mechanical thrombectomy (including receiving referrals from other hospitals) Involvement on HASU and ASU, directly working with the stroke consultant in the running of the ward There will also be non-stroke clinical work, comprising approximately 20% of clinical work. This will vary based on the applicants medical background and the needs of the hospital. This will involve a proportion of the clinical work being within other departments, including Geriatrics, Neurology, Acute Medicine and Rehabilitation medicine. On call : At present the registrars work a 1 in 7 partial shift. There is a requirement to work a 24/7 resident rota to carry the stroke bleep and make thrombolysis and thrombectomy decisions (supported by an on-call Consultant) on a 1:13 basis. When you work weekends and nights you will be rostered with appropriate compensatory rest. In addition to 9-5 day shifts, there are long day shifts (9am-9pm, which include weekends) and night shifts 9pm-9am.
