Job Overview:

We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Mailroom Operative to join our team at Mitie Defence, MOD Corsham. In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient collection, handling and distribution of mail and packages within the organisation by either foot or vehicle. You will also be required to complete general office administration tasks and assist with other tasks within the greater logistics department as and when required. The successful candidate will have to complete the required documentation for security clearance. This role would also suit ex-military personnel who worked in a mailroom.

Main Duties:

The role involves providing an efficient post and courier service in line with contractual requirements, including the daily delivery and collection of mail in accordance with the SRD and handling all mail appropriately in line with relevant policies. Responsibilities also include undertaking general administrative duties within the post room, such as operating the X-ray machine, providing cover during staff absences, and meeting and exchanging items with delivery companies including Royal Mail. The post holder is expected to maintain a clean and tidy work environment, complete any required training as agreed with the line manager, and carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed. Additional duties include escorting contractors and visitors when required, delivering excellent customer service with a high degree of integrity, and working effectively both independently and as part of a team using their own initiative. The role requires self-motivation, punctuality, flexibility to undertake cross-training to support the department and site, and a willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.

What we are looking for

Essential

The role requires a full driving licence with the ability to drive Category B vehicles, including small vans, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use role-specific IT systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organisational and time-management skills, with experience of working to deadlines and exceptional attention to detail, showing a clear commitment to quality. Excellent communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A good standard of English and Maths is required, together with a sound understanding of Health and Safety procedures.

Desirable

Prior experience in mail delivery is desirable, along with experience of working in a Post Office or a military post room. An IOSH Working Safely qualification would be advantageous but is not essential, as professional training will be provided. Experience of working in a customer-focused environment is also required.
