Summary
Day in the Life
To ensure the efficient, timely, and accurate control and flow of raw materials, specifically Steel and Aluminium, into the manufacturing process to support continuous automotive production. The Material Controller will manage inventory, liaise with suppliers, monitor material usage, and ensure raw material availability in line with production schedules and quality requirements.
Role Responsibilities
Setting of key planning parameters to ensure timely delivery of raw materials
Monitor and manage raw material inventory levels in line with production demands
Maintain accurate stock records through regular PI activity
Monitor material usage rates and adjust planning accordingly
Support ongoing supply into the Plants on an OTIF basis
Support NPI activity and adoption into mass production process across the Plants
Generate Material Forecasts to align to key project milestones
Generate long term material consumption forecasts
Management of the Customers CPS material process
Manage supplier concerns through root cause analysis & countermeasure
Work with Quality & Engineering to address material non-conformities
Vendor Ratings - generate and monitor key material suppliers
Problem Solving any supply constraints to minimise downtime
Conduct a robust RFQ process for sourcing of low volume material solutions
Control of off-site Customer owned material
Management of the Model Runout Program with minimum obsolescence
Ensure Supplier ASN compliance and resolve any invoice queries
Reporting on departmental KPIs such as inventory turnover, shortages, stock holding, valuation, accuracy and supplier performance
Skills & Abilities
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in material control or supply chain in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
Experience managing ferrous and non-ferrous metals (Steel and Aluminium).
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery concepts.
Person profile
Able to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority.
IT literate in use of Microsoft Packages and QAD system
