The Role

Queen Mary’s High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of English on a fixed‑term basis until the end of the Summer Term 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high‑performing, supportive and ambitious English department within a selective girls’ grammar school with a co‑educational sixth form.

The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach A Level English for the right candidate. You will be passionate about English, committed to academic excellence, and motivated by the desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives.

About the School

Queen Mary’s High School is an academically selective11–18 girls’ grammar school, co‑educational in the sixth form, with approximately950 students on roll. Founded in 1893, the school has a long‑standing reputation for excellence, high academic standards and exceptional pastoral care. Located in the heart of Walsall, the school serves students from across the West Midlands.

The English Department

The English department is large, thriving and highly collaborative, with a strong evidence‑informed approach to teaching and learning. The department benefits from:

• Centralised Schemes of Learning from KS3–KS5
• A rich, ambitious and diverse curriculum
• Excellent resources including visualisers, MASSOLIT and Educake
• Strong uptake at GCSE and A Level, with students progressing to top universities

Staff are encouraged to contribute to curriculum development and to share best practice within a supportive and experienced team.
