Summary
We are seeking an exceptional Software Engineering Manager & Head of AI to lead our engineering function and drive the future of AI within our organisation. This unique role blends technical leadership, strategic AI direction, and people management.
As the Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions.
As the Head of AI, you will define and execute our AI strategy, positioning us as an industry leader in the application of AI within the Facilities Management (FM) sector. This is a key leadership position with significant organisational impact, suitable for a visionary technology leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, focusing on performance, career growth, and wellbeing.
- Plan, prioritise, and oversee the delivery of engineering work to meet deadlines, quality standards, and budget expectations.
- Champion and enforce best practices in software development, including coding standards, testing, documentation, and security.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and wider business stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Own technical delivery across assigned products/platforms, managing risks, dependencies, and technical debt.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and Agile ways of working (e.g., Scrum, CI/CD).
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of engineering talent.
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations, data protection laws, and internal governance frameworks.
- Develop, define, and execute the organisation's AI strategy, aligned with business objectives and industry evolution.
- Lead the design, deployment, and integration of AI solutions across the business.
- Identify opportunities for automation, optimisation, and service excellence through AI and data analytics.
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary AI team, fostering innovation and continuous learning.
- Drive change management and user adoption to maximise AI value and measurable business outcomes.
- Monitor AI system performance and present progress and ROI to executive leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Agile or software delivery certifications (e.g., Scrum Master, SAFe) - desirable.
- AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, Developer) - desirable.
- Leadership or management training - an advantage.
- Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in a commercial environment.
- Strong hands-on development background with expertise in:
- Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind
- Backend: Python, REST APIs
- Infrastructure: AWS, Azure, Docker, Terraform
- Extensive experience architecting and operating AWS solutions (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, cloud-native patterns).
- In-depth knowledge of GitHub workflows, branching strategies, repository management, and GitHub Actions (or equivalent CI/CD tooling).
- Experience with operational tooling such as Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence) and PagerDuty.
- Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, and cloud-first engineering principles.
- Proven track record delivering scalable, secure, and reliable systems in distributed, cloud-based environments.
- Strong understanding of quality engineering, security practices, observability, and performance optimisation.
- Experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams.
- Knowledge of UK employment practices and UK GDPR - desirable.
- Extensive experience in AI, machine learning, or data analytics in complex environments.
- Experience delivering AI solutions in the Facilities Management, property, or real estate sectors - highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of AI frameworks, relevant programming languages, and cloud AI platforms.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Deep understanding of data governance, security, and compliance in AI applications.
