Term of Contract: Maternity Cover, Fixed Term

Working pattern: Term Time Only

Hours per week: Part Time 30 hours per week

St. Patrick’s RC Primary School are currently seeking a Children’s Welfare Officer. The school’s mission statement is ‘Together through love and Service we will come to know God and grow to be the individuals we were created to be’. St. Patrick’s are looking for a Children’s Welfare Officer to work as part of the Pastoral Support team at the school. As one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leaders you would be responsible to and work in conjunction with the Safeguarding Lead in facilitating and developing safeguarding and child protection policies, training, procedures and guidance. In your role as a Children’s Welfare Officer, you will oversee Whole School Attendance, code registers and analyse data on a day-to-day basis tracking absences.

You will liaise with external agencies as required and have a good understanding of how they function e.g. Education Welfare, Children’s Services and signpost accordingly and attend strategy meetings as required. You will complete emotion-based non-attendance work with identified children and families. You will complete welfare/home visits etc as required, ensuring that all actions are followed up in line with Safeguarding requirements. You will work closely with the School’s Senior Leadership Team to ensure that pupil’s needs are identified and met.

We are seeking an individual who has:

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade A*-C or Level 9-4
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline
  • To be willing to attend further training as required
  • Recently worked and demonstrable experience of working in safeguarding with; vulnerable children, young people and families
  • Experience of working within/alongside Children’s Services
  • Up to date working knowledge, experience and understanding of legal frameworks and legislation linked to children’s welfare, including safeguarding, attendance and school admissions
  • To have the ability to lead Early Help assessments and attend safeguarding meetings
  • Knowledge and experience of developing attendance strategies
  • Experience in building positive relationships with hard-to-reach families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Competent use of Microsoft Word and excel
  • Experience of meeting deadlines
  • Ability / willingness to drive or work off site as required e.g. home visits, meetings
