We are looking for enthusiastic Specialty Doctors with experience in urgent and emergency care to become part of our dedicated team at the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Watford General Hospital. Our UTC provides same-day assessments and treatments for patients presenting with urgent, non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

What We Offer:

Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurses, and support staff.A diverse range of services under the Integrated Urgent Care Pathway (IUPC), which includes UTC, Single Point of Access (SPA), Out-of-Hours (OOH), and the CAS 111 service.

· Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care for urgent but non-life-threatening conditions.

· Assess, diagnose, and manage a variety of minor illnesses and injuries.

· Maintain up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) training; Immediate Life Support (ILS) is desirable and supported by the service.

· Collaborate with the Emergency Department, Secondary Care, Primary Care, and community services.

· Recognise early signs of serious illness or deterioration, initiate urgent management when appropriate, and escalate promptly to the Emergency Department or specialty teams.

· Contribute to clinical pathway development and service improvements.

· Participate in clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

Clinical Governance:

Provide clinical care that aligns with recognised protocols and procedures indicative of excellence in general practice.

Ensure safe and efficient medical care in accordance with both national and local standards for the Urgent Treatment Centre.

Address medical concerns reported by patients or their carers appropriately.

Collaborate with the administrative team to highlight cases needing urgent review to the registered GP surgery.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

Work with relevant stakeholders (UTC management, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Department management, etc.) to identify and mitigate risks.

Liaise with allied and community services (e.g., London Ambulance, Social Services, Mental Health Teams) to support an optimal patient journey.

Awareness of NHS urgent and emergency care strategies, with a willingness to become familiar with local pathways.

Maintenance of up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as a minimum.

Full unrestricted registration with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. CCT is desirable, but Senior SAS (Specialty and Associate Specialist) candidates will also be considered.Current experience in Emergency Medicine or SAS with substantial experience in urgent and/or Out-of-Hours care settings.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service is required to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
