Job Title: Logistics Manager - Warehouse & Outside Storage (Hands-On Role, 3rd Party Transport)

We are seeking an experienced and practical Logistics Manager to oversee our client's warehouse and outside storage operations. This is a hands-on role within a small, dedicated logistics team, focused on ensuring efficient storage, stock accuracy, purchasing, and coordination with third-party hauliers for all inbound and outbound movements. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader, working closely with the team to maintain high operational standards and prevent stock shortages.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership (Hands-On):
. Lead daily warehouse and outside storage activities, directly supporting the team when needed.
. Assist with loading/unloading, stock checks, yard organisation, and equipment use.
. Ensure all goods in and goods out processes are safe, efficient, and accurate.
. Oversee the movement of parts between indoor and outdoor storage areas.
Warehouse & Outside Storage Management:
. Manage the layout, organisation, and optimisation of warehouse and yard storage areas.
. Ensure all parts are safely stored, labelled correctly, and easily accessible.
. Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and site presentation.
. Coordinate yard operations, including space allocation and safe vehicle flow.
Stock Monitoring & Purchasing:
. Monitor stock levels to ensure availability of critical parts and materials.
. Forecast demand based on usage, lead times, and operational requirements.
. Raise purchase orders and liaise with suppliers to replenish stock in a timely manner.
. Prevent stockouts by maintaining appropriate safety stock levels and tracking supplier performance.
. Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, damages, or process failures.
3rd Party Haulier Coordination:
. Liaise with external hauliers to arrange collections and deliveries.
. Provide hauliers with accurate loading information, documentation, and site instructions.
. Ensure vehicles are loaded safely and in line with customer and haulier requirements.
. Monitor haulier performance and address recurring issues where necessary.
Team Leadership:
. Lead and support a small logistics team, providing hands-on guidance and daily task allocation.
. Train team members to build capability across warehouse, yard, and stock control tasks.
. Foster a positive, safety-focused working environment.
Compliance & Safety:
. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and site procedures.
. Oversee equipment checks, yard safety, and safe working practices.
. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure the site is audit-ready.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting:
. Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
. Monitor KPIs such as stock accuracy, turnaround times, and supplier/haulier performance.
. Provide regular operational updates to senior management.
Skills and Qualifications:
. Experience in logistics, warehousing, stock control, or yard operations.
. Comfortable in a hands-on management role within a small team.
. Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
. Good understanding of warehouse systems, purchasing processes, and inventory management.
. Knowledge of safe yard practices and manual handling.
. Strong communication skills for working with suppliers, hauliers, and internal teams.
