Summary
HIV Senior HCA – 35 hours per week (0.93 WTE)
We are looking for a caring, compassionate and driven Health Care Assistant to join our HIV Team, Whitegate Drive Health Centre.
This will involve working alongside the Doctors and Nurses undertaking procedures, chaperoning, venepuncture and administrative duties.
We would like someone with excellent communication skills who enjoys working as part of a team and supporting others.
The successful post-holder will be expected to work flexibly to cover the service needs.
The post holder will be an integral and flexible member of the HIV team, working in traditional and non-traditional community health settings.
They will be required to work closely with the clinical nurse specialists for HIV, undertaking venepuncture and monitoring for those living with HIV and assisting in the Consultant review clinics.
There will also be some administrative responsibilities with this role. Results management and filing, HARS entries, preparing notes for MDT and clinics etc.
Support senior colleagues during contraceptive procedures and the screening / treatment of patients for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Undertake asymptomatic screening of patients who meet a specific criteria
Administrative support for the management of the Sexual Health Service, including reception duties.

•To work as a member of the Team supporting & chaperoning health care professionals during intimate examinations/ procedures
•Act as patient advocate at all times
•To undertake appropriate training to prepare the clinical area
•To facilitate the smooth operation of the clinical session. Call the patients through to the clinical room as agreed with the clinician conducting the clinic. Ensure that the patient is made to feel welcome.
•Prepare the patient for the consultation, examination and appropriate testing
•Following training and assessment, perform simple nursing procedures eg. urinalysis, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure (BP). Record findings, reporting the results to the health care professional in line with departmental policy
•Following training perform Frax and Q-risk assessments on HIV patients and highlight to the healthcare professional results accordingly.
•Following training and assessment undertake venepuncture on a daily basis
•Offer and support asymptomatic patients to undertake self-taken samples (swabs and urine)
•Following training and with support from senior colleagues provide support to the patients attending the clinics. (Information relating to their care/ tests taken/ results and follow up procedures)
•Ensure that all specimens are appropriately labelled
•Ensure safe storage and transportation of all specimens to the testing laboratory as per departmental policy
• Following training help facilitate patients to access their HIV care and treatment
• Signposting to HIV support services including peer support
