An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Engineer to join our Transport Projects & Programmes team at Leicestershire County Council, one of the best performing councils in the country. The successful applicant will join a motivated, friendly team of professionals committed to delivering public sector highway advance design feasibility assessments for improvements that offer best value for money whilst simultaneously pushing the boundaries of innovation and carbon savings through design. You will report into Senior Engineers and assist them in the efficient design of multiple Highway construction schemes and maintenance works to achieve delivery within time and cost targets.

The successful applicant will also be expected to visit construction sites on location.

About the Role

This role is mainly based on highway advance design for a variety of schemes such as junction design/improvements, walking and cycling improvements, intelligent transport systems, and safety schemes, involving early concept design and optioneering which may involve analysis of data and junction modelling to inform scheme design.

This will help to support the capital programme and future bids for government funding.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • A degree in an appropriate subject or equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC Higher in Civil Engineering)
  • Experience working in a civil engineering setting, including conducting on-site visits to gather essential data and asset information.
  • Experience of developing and project managing civil engineering projects and works programmes including the preparation of technical reports in accordance with industry standards and including preliminary cost estimates.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to liaise with customers and clients. Applicants must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills using IT systems to accurately capture, store and retrieve information.
  • Ability to interpret map and plans. Producing Engineering Drawings using AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Knowledge of current Highways Legislation and standards and guidance.
