Summary


We have an exciting new opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join University Hospitals Dorset. You will be working as part of the surgical pharmacy team providing pharmacy services to surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, head & neck, ophthalmology, theatres, gynaecology and nutrition.

Our surgical services are undergoing transformation to provide an elective surgical site at Poole Hospital with a new enhanced peri-operative care unit (EPOC) and emergency services at the Bournemouth site including (but not limited to): maxillofacial, ENT, vascular, upper and lower GI and urology surgeries.

Our well established surgical pharmacy team work closely with the clinical teams in all surgical specialities to provide excellent clinical care, expert advice on medications, service developments, seamless transformation, medicines optimisation and medicines governance. As a pharmacist in this role you will be embedded within the clinical team where you will be supported and encouraged to utilise your clinical skills and knowledge in individual surgical specialities to improve pharmacy services to the surgical care group.

You will be supported in your personal development, and you will be actively encouraged to evolve your clinical, professional and leadership skills, through coaching and mentoring, and by completing training courses and formal qualifications.

Main duties of the job
• Patient-Centred Care: Provide a patient-focused and clinically competent pharmacy service to inpatient surgical wards. This involves working directly with patients and contributing to their care.
• Team Development: Work with and develop rotational pharmacists, technicians, and trainees within surgery, including supporting their professional and clinical skills.
• Clinical Guidance and Practice: Contribute to the development of clinical guidance and ensure that pharmacy practices align with national guidelines. Implement cost-saving measures, develop and review patient group directions (PGDs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) where necessary.
• Integration and Collaboration: Integrate secondary care services within the broader NHS Dorset Healthcare system. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and contribute to the overall patient care strategy.
• Service Development: Play a role in the ongoing development of pharmacy services within surgery. Suggest improvements, streamline processes, and stay updated with best practices.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a role model and pharmacy ambassador, and demonstrate leadership qualities. Mentor and line manage rotational pharmacists, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
