Summary
Location: E2 Community Hub Urban Garden, Beaumont Leys, Leicester
Contract Type: Employed (PAYE)
Hours: 13 hours 20 minutes per week (equivalent to 2 days per week)
Working Pattern: Typically 9:00am–4:00pm with a 20-minute unpaid break (2 days per week)
Contract Length: Ongoing, year-round (subject to funding and performance)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Community Garden Coordinator to lead the day-to-day delivery and development of our Urban Garden. This is a hands-on role that combines practical horticulture with community engagement and light coordination duties. You will have autonomy to plan weekly priorities in line with garden needs, weather, and the season.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and develop the Urban Garden, including planting, growing, harvesting, and seasonal upkeep
Plan and prioritise weekly tasks based on weather, season, and garden requirements
Support and engage volunteers and community participants in garden activities
Ensure the garden remains safe, welcoming, and productive throughout the year
Make effective use of sheltered spaces (e.g. polytunnel) during poor weather
Contribute ideas to improve and evolve the garden while retaining what works well
Liaise with E2 staff to align garden activity with wider community programmes
Maintain basic records as required (e.g. tasks completed, volunteer involvement, outputs)
Person Specification
Essential:
Strong practical gardening or horticultural experience
Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
Confidence working with a wide range of people and abilities
Reliable, organised, and proactive
Commitment to positive community engagement
Desirable:
Experience in a community, youth, or educational setting
Volunteer coordination or group facilitation experience
Relevant horticultural or environmental qualifications
Basic understanding of health and safety in outdoor work environments
Employment Details
This is a PAYE role and therefore includes statutory employment rights, including holiday entitlement and pension (subject to eligibility). Appointment will be subject to the usual pre-employment checks. Safeguarding awareness is important due to the nature of our work with the community.
